Introduction
Patients with gallstones may find it helpful to sleep in positions such as lying on the left side, right side, prone position, supine position, or kneeling to alleviate pain. However, if the pain is severe, prompt medical attention is recommended to avoid delaying treatment. While changing positions can only help reduce or temporarily relieve pain, timely treatment under a doctor's guidance is advised to effectively relieve discomfort.

Patients with gallstones may find it helpful to sleep in positions such as lying on the left side, lying on the right side, prone position, supine position, or kneeling to alleviate pain. However, if the pain is severe, prompt medical attention is recommended to avoid delaying treatment.

1. Left-side lying position

Depending on the location of the gallstone blockage, some patients may benefit from lying on their left side while hugging their knees, which can help reduce obstruction and relieve symptoms.

2. Right-side lying position

Some patients experience relief by sleeping on their right side. This position may compress the gallbladder toward one side, allowing gravity to shift the stone and reduce blockage of the cystic duct.

3. Prone position

For some gallstone patients, sleeping in a prone position helps reduce abdominal pressure, expand the gallbladder duct, promote stone passage, and lessen irritation caused by the stone, thereby reducing pain.

4. Supine position

When lying on the back, internal organs remain in a relatively balanced state with minimal displacement, helping to relax both inner and outer abdominal muscles and relieve pain.

5. Kneeling position

This involves supporting the lower body on the knees, maintaining a kneeling posture. It can reduce pressure from surrounding organs on the gallbladder and alleviate pain.

While certain body positions may help reduce or temporarily relieve pain, it is advisable to seek timely medical treatment under a doctor's guidance to properly address discomfort.
