What causes a child to have fever, chills, and shivering?
Fever, chills, and shivering in children may be caused by factors such as exposure to cold, viral infection, or sepsis.
1. Exposure to cold
If clothing or indoor temperature is not adjusted promptly during sudden drops in temperature, the child may become chilled. Treatment may include medications such as ibuprofen suspension, ibuprofen suppositories, or acetaminophen extended-release tablets, used according to medical advice.
2. Viral infection
When infected with viruses or bacteria, the central nervous system may be stimulated, leading to symptoms. Under a doctor's guidance, medications such as ibuprofen extended-release capsules, pediatric antipyretic suppositories, or penicillin V potassium tablets may be used for anti-infective and fever-reducing treatment.
3. Sepsis
When immunity is weakened and infections caused by organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus or anaerobic bacteria lead to sepsis, these symptoms may also occur. Anti-infective treatment may include medications such as imipenem injection, cefoperazone injection, or meropenem injection, used as directed by a physician.
In addition, during medication use, patients should avoid adjusting drug dosages on their own, as this could negatively affect recovery.
