Is HPV58 positive a sign of cancer?
HPV58 usually refers to human papillomavirus type 58. A positive result for HPV58 does not mean cancer. HPV58 is a common pathogen causing sexually transmitted infections and can lead to inflammatory conditions in the genital system, but it is not itself a malignant or cancerous condition.
HPV58 is classified as a high-risk type and is most commonly associated with genital warts. This disease is an infectious inflammatory condition that may cause genital tissues to develop growths resembling cauliflower, flat lesions, or cockscomb-like shapes. Cancer, on the other hand, is a malignant neoplastic condition typically linked to genetic mutations in body cells. Therefore, a positive HPV58 status and cancer are distinct types of diseases. However, HPV58 infection is considered a high-risk factor for cancers such as penile cancer and cervical cancer.
Patients who test positive for HPV58 should follow medical advice and begin standardized treatment as early as possible to reduce the future risk of malignant transformation. Common treatment approaches include physical therapies and medication.
