What causes periostitis?
Osteoperiostitis refers to periostitis. Generally, periostitis is commonly caused by chronic strain, pathogen infection, or other diseases that invade the periosteum. It is recommended to actively seek treatment under a doctor's guidance. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Chronic Strain
Periostitis may develop due to prolonged high-intensity training, repeated external force on bones, or intense physical activity within a short period, leading to exercise-related injuries.
2. Pathogen Infection
When the body's immunity decreases and becomes susceptible to pathogens, infectious bacteria can spread via the bloodstream to the periosteum, causing periostitis. Additionally, if skin wounds fail to heal over a long period and the infection progresses further, pathogens may invade the periosteal tissue and lead to periostitis.
3. Invasion by Other Diseases
Conditions such as hypertrophic osteoarthritis, diabetes, and tumors may potentially invade the periosteum and result in periostitis.
After developing periostitis, patients can undergo treatments such as acupuncture or shortwave therapy under the guidance of a qualified physician to help alleviate symptoms. For a small number of patients with severe infections, professional medical procedures such as abscess drainage or debridement may be required to promote healing at the affected site.
