Introduction
Cysts are benign conditions that can develop anywhere in the body, primarily due to congenital developmental abnormalities or persistent local irritation, leading to abnormal cell proliferation and the formation of fluid-filled sacs. Laryngeal cancer is a malignant tumor; its exact cause is currently unclear but may be associated with long-term smoking, air pollution, and other factors.

The differences between laryngeal cancer and cysts generally include different causes, different manifestations, and different treatment approaches.

1. Different Causes

Cysts are benign conditions that can develop anywhere in the body, primarily due to congenital developmental abnormalities or persistent local irritation, leading to abnormal cell proliferation and encapsulation of fluid. Laryngeal cancer is a malignant tumor; its exact cause is currently unclear but may be associated with long-term smoking, air pollution, and other factors. Harmful substances affect the laryngeal mucosa, causing excessive growth and eventually malignant transformation.

2. Different Manifestations

The symptoms of cysts vary depending on their location. If the cyst is small, patients often have no obvious symptoms. As the cyst enlarges, patients may experience skin protrusion, pain, or discomfort. If the cyst compresses the nervous system, it may lead to neurological dysfunction, such as limb numbness. In early stages, laryngeal cancer patients may show no abnormalities. However, as cancer cells multiply and invade the vocal cords, patients may develop symptoms such as coughing and hoarseness.

3. Different Treatments

Small cysts usually do not require special treatment and only need regular follow-up examinations. For larger cysts, patients may go to the hospital for ultrasound-guided drainage of the fluid. Laryngeal cancer is primarily treated with surgical removal. If metastasis occurs, chemotherapy and radiotherapy may also be needed to control disease progression.

In addition, the two conditions differ in prognosis. Patients are advised to follow medical advice for regular check-ups and not delay treatment.
