How long after fibroadenoma surgery can I resume working out?
Fitness activities can generally be resumed 1 to 3 months after fibroadenoma surgery, depending on individual circumstances.
Fibroadenomas of the breast are typically caused by abnormal proliferation of fibroblasts and glandular epithelial tissues. In general, physical exercise can be resumed 1 to 3 months after fibroadenoma surgery. For patients with smaller fibroadenomas located closer to the surface, microwave radiofrequency ablation is commonly used. This minimally invasive technique results in a small local skin incision and allows for a shorter recovery period. However, if the fibroadenoma is large or deeply situated, traditional open surgery may be required, involving a larger skin incision to completely remove the tumor. In such cases, recovery takes longer, and patients may need approximately three months before resuming exercise. Additionally, postoperative care significantly affects recovery time; inadequate wound care leading to infection can further delay rehabilitation. Therefore, the timing for returning to fitness should be determined based on each individual's healing progress.
After fibroadenoma surgery, it is recommended to maintain a light diet and avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
