Chest surgery procedure
In general, thoracic surgery includes procedures such as open thoracotomy, thoracoscopy, and mediastinoscopy. The specific surgical approach varies depending on the type of disease. Taking open thoracotomy as an example, the detailed steps are as follows:
1. Position the patient in a supine position, administer lidocaine for anesthesia, disinfect the chest wall area, and drape with sterile towels.
2. Make an incision along the median sternum, starting gradually from the anterior border of the latissimus dorsi muscle, curving posteriorly two to three centimeters below the inferior angle of the scapula, and progressively cutting through the muscle layers down to the pleura.
3. Use a rib retractor to open the pleural cavity and remove the diseased tissue.
4. Irrigate the thoracic cavity with normal saline, close the median sternal incision, suture the muscle fascia and skin layer by layer, and cover the wound with sterile dressings after suturing is complete.
Open thoracotomy is a highly specialized procedure. If this surgery is required, it should be performed under the guidance of a qualified physician. Adequate rest after surgery is recommended to promote recovery.
