Operative procedure for sternocleidomastoid muscle release surgery
Under normal circumstances, sternocleidomastoid muscle release surgery can be used to treat neck deformities caused by congenital torticollis. The specific procedure is as follows:
1. Position the patient in a supine position, disinfect the surgical site, drape with sterile towels, and administer anesthesia.
2. Make a skin incision approximately 5 cm in length on the affected side, starting 1 cm above the sternoclavicular joint and running parallel to the clavicle.
3. Incise the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and platysma muscle. Dissect beneath the platysma and retract it superiorly and inferiorly to expose the sternal and clavicular heads of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
4. Isolate the sternal head and clavicular head separately, then progressively transect them obliquely.
5. After cutting the contracted muscle, rotate the patient's head and use fingers to check for any remaining tight muscle fibers, ensuring complete release.
6. Achieve thorough hemostasis, close the wound layer by layer, and cover the incision with a sterile dressing.
This surgical procedure requires a certain level of expertise. To ensure surgical success, it is recommended that the operation be performed under the guidance of a qualified physician.
