Chapped lips after contracting COVID-19 may result from fluid loss in the body due to fever, leading to peeling of the lips. It is recommended to maintain adequate fluid intake during illness and consume fresh fruits as appropriate to help improve chapped lips.

When running a high fever from COVID-19, the body functions like a machine operating at high speed, consuming large amounts of energy and bodily fluids. Additionally, appetite is typically very poor during fever, making it difficult to eat. This means that while energy and fluids are being rapidly depleted, they are not being sufficiently replenished, which may lead to dry lips in patients.

It is advised that patients with fever drink plenty of warm water, which helps rehydrate the body and alleviate chapped lips. If necessary, patients may also take medications such as acetaminophen tablets or ibuprofen sustained-release capsules under medical guidance to reduce body temperature and thereby relieve lip peeling symptoms.

It is advisable to reduce consumption of spicy and irritating foods in daily life and avoid contact between the lips and irritating substances such as alcohol or harsh toothpaste, to minimize the risk of lip irritation. After each meal or cleansing of the lip area, promptly apply a low-irritant lip balm or petroleum jelly to moisturize and protect the lips. Avoiding local friction, scratching, and sun exposure can also help prevent chapped lips.
