Is chronic cervicitis serious?
Whether chronic cervicitis is serious depends on the severity of the patient's condition—it may be either mild or severe.
1. Mild case
If the condition is relatively mild and only presents symptoms such as increased vaginal discharge, frequent urination, or urgency, it can gradually improve with active treatment and typically does not affect daily life.
2. Severe case
If chronic cervicitis is not treated promptly or thoroughly, allowing pathogens to persist, complications such as cervical polyps or cervical hypertrophy may develop. In addition to the aforementioned symptoms, patients may also experience itching of the external genitalia or bleeding after intercourse. In severe cases, cervical cancer or precancerous lesions may occur, which are considered serious outcomes.
Patients with chronic cervicitis should seek timely medical attention; otherwise, additional discomforts may arise and treatment duration may be prolonged.
