Introduction
Both cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage are cerebrovascular diseases. Although they share some similar symptoms, they are not the same condition and can be differentiated based on etiology, clinical manifestations, and imaging studies. Cerebral infarction typically occurs during rest, develops gradually, and has a relatively prolonged course. Patients may experience symptoms such as limb numbness, dizziness, and weakness, and usually have no disturbance of consciousness or only mild impairment. In contrast, cerebral hemorrhage occurs during physical activity.
Both cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage are cerebrovascular diseases. Although they share some similar symptoms, they are not the same condition and can be differentiated based on etiology, clinical manifestations, and imaging studies. Specific differences are as follows:
1. Etiology
Cerebral hemorrhage is an acute condition caused by intracranial bleeding due to factors such as hypertension, trauma, or rupture of aortic dissection. Cerebral infarction results from conditions like hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, or endocarditis, leading to softening, ischemia, and necrosis of brain tissue.
2. Symptoms
Patients with cerebral infarction typically develop symptoms at rest, with a relatively slow onset and a longer disease course. They may experience numbness in limbs, dizziness, and weakness. Consciousness is usually preserved or only mildly impaired. In contrast, cerebral hemorrhage occurs during physical activity, has a sudden and rapid onset, and often presents with projectile vomiting and severe headache due to a sharp rise in intracranial pressure. Persistent disturbances in consciousness are common.
3. Imaging Studies
Imaging examinations reveal that cerebral hemorrhage appears as a high-density lesion, whereas cerebral infarction appears as a low-density lesion.
Both cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage are serious medical conditions. Once they occur, they may impair brain function and require prompt medical intervention.
