What are the causes and treatments for left intercostal neuralgia?
Left-sided intercostal neuralgia is usually caused by factors such as viral infection, trauma, or intercostal neuritis, and can be treated with medication. Specific causes are as follows:
1. Viral infection
When the body's immunity is low, latent viruses in the body may reactivate, infect sensory nerves, develop into herpes zoster, damage nerves, and cause neuralgia. Under medical guidance, medications such as entecavir tablets or ribavirin tablets can be used for treatment.
2. Trauma
Due to external forces or other factors causing thoracic spine injury, sensory disturbances in corresponding segments may occur, leading to the aforementioned symptoms. Under medical guidance, medications such as penicillin V potassium tablets or enteric-coated erythromycin tablets can be used for treatment.
3. Intercostal neuritis
This condition is commonly caused by herpes zoster virus infection, but may also result from other infections or nerve compression, leading to damage of the intercostal nerves and resulting in intercostal neuralgia. Under medical guidance, medications such as compound amino acid capsules, mecobalamin capsules, or vitamin B1 tablets can be used for treatment.
In addition to the above-mentioned causes, intercostal neuralgia may also be caused by conditions such as herpes zoster, eczema, or tumor compression. It is recommended to wear loose and comfortable clothing, preferably made of cotton.
