Pain in the left scapula when tilting the head backward
Neck extension causing pain in the left shoulder blade may be due to physiological factors, but pathological causes such as periarthritis of the shoulder (frozen shoulder) or cervical spondylosis cannot be ruled out. Treatment should be based on the underlying cause. Specific analysis is as follows:
I. Physiological Factors
If a patient remains for prolonged periods in a cold environment without adequate local warmth, the area may be exposed to cold air, leading to slowed blood circulation and impaired normal movement. This can easily result in shoulder blade pain during neck extension. Symptoms can be improved by adjusting indoor temperature and wearing additional clothing.
II. Pathological Factors
1. Periarthritis of the Shoulder (Frozen Shoulder)
This is a common condition. Repeated inflammatory stimulation can lead to symptoms such as restricted movement and shoulder pain. Under a doctor's guidance, medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, acetaminophen tablets, or diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets may be prescribed for treatment.
2. Cervical Spondylosis
Cervical spondylosis primarily results from degenerative changes in the cervical intervertebral discs, which may compress local nerves. Neck movements can therefore trigger shoulder pain. Medications such as Jinfukang granules, Jingkang capsules, or Jingkang tablets may be taken as directed by a physician.
In addition to the above-mentioned causes, conditions such as rotator cuff injury, ankylosing spondylitis, or clavicle fracture should also be considered. If symptoms are severe, patients should seek timely medical evaluation and treatment at a qualified hospital to prevent worsening of the condition.
