Introduction
Both excessive and insufficient stomach acid are harmful. Irregular eating habits, such as frequent overeating, may lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction. Additionally, prolonged use of anti-inflammatory medications can cause the drug components to irritate local mucosal cells, resulting in cellular damage and consequently excessive secretion of gastric acid. The acidic components further aggravate irritation to the stomach lining.

Both excessive and insufficient stomach acid are undesirable. A detailed analysis is as follows:

1. Excessive Stomach Acid

Irregular eating habits, such as frequent overeating or binge eating, may disrupt normal gastric function. Additionally, prolonged use of anti-inflammatory medications can cause drug components to irritate mucosal cells in the stomach, leading to cell damage and consequently increased gastric acid secretion. The excess acid further irritates the stomach lining, causing symptoms such as heartburn and belching. In severe cases, it may lead to conditions like gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers. Therefore, excessive stomach acid is harmful. It is recommended to maintain regular作息 (daily routines), avoid spicy foods, and consume more flour-based foods to help neutralize stomach acid.

2. Insufficient Stomach Acid

Due to aging, bodily organ functions gradually decline, including reduced digestive capacity of the stomach, resulting in decreased gastric acid secretion. After eating, food may not be fully broken down and remains in the stomach for extended periods, where it can be decomposed by bacteria, leading to fermentation. This may cause indigestion, bloating, and other discomforts. Patients are advised to take medications such as domperidone tablets or tegaserod hydrochloride tablets under medical guidance.

It is recommended to follow a light diet, chew food thoroughly and eat slowly, and avoid lying down immediately after meals.
