Introduction
Left eyelid twitching is often associated with excessive mental stress, bacterial conjunctivitis, facial paralysis, and other causes. During periods of high mental stress, nervous system dysfunction may occur, affecting the normal function of the eye muscles and leading to symptoms such as eyelid twitching, eye soreness, and blurred vision. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and usually improves effectively once stress is properly relieved.

Constant twitching of the left eyelid may be related to excessive mental stress, bacterial conjunctivitis, facial nerve paralysis, and other causes. A detailed analysis is as follows:

1. Excessive Mental Stress

During periods of high mental stress, nervous system dysfunction may occur, affecting the normal function of eye muscles and leading to symptoms such as eyelid twitching, eye soreness, and blurred vision. This is a normal physiological phenomenon and usually improves effectively once stress is relieved.

2. Bacterial Conjunctivitis

When bacteria proliferate extensively in the conjunctiva, they release inflammatory factors that may cause eye pain, burning sensation, redness, swelling, and muscle or nerve spasms. Under medical guidance, patients can use medications such as tobramycin-dexamethasone ophthalmic solution or lomefloxacin hydrochloride ophthalmic solution for treatment. Additionally, it's important to avoid rubbing the eyes with hands in daily life to prevent symptom worsening.

3. Facial Nerve Paralysis

Facial nerve paralysis during its course can impair normal facial muscle function, possibly causing muscle dysfunction or reflexive muscle contractions, resulting in symptoms such as asymmetric mouth corners, muscle tremors, and swallowing difficulties. Physical therapies such as infrared irradiation or shortwave diathermy may be used under medical supervision. For severe cases, surgical treatments like facial nerve decompression or nerve anastomosis may also be recommended by doctors.

Besides the above common causes, eyelid twitching might also be associated with improper medication use, peripheral neuritis, Parkinson’s disease, and other conditions. If eyelid twitching persists for a prolonged period or is accompanied by other discomforts such as dry eyes or vision loss, timely medical consultation at a hospital is recommended to prevent further progression of the condition.
