Introduction
Symptoms of phlegm-dampness include obesity, pale complexion, and limb fatigue. This condition can be managed through dietary adjustments, appropriate exercise, and medication. Specifically: phlegm-dampness arises from spleen yang deficiency. When the spleen and stomach lose their transformative and transporting functions, body fluids cannot be properly metabolized, leading to obesity. Due to spleen deficiency with dampness, the distribution of body fluids becomes disrupted, causing changes in facial skin and resulting in a pale appearance.

Symptoms of phlegm-dampness generally include obesity, pallor, and limb fatigue. These can be managed through dietary adjustments, appropriate exercise, and medication. Specific details are as follows:
  I. Symptoms
  1. Obesity
Phlegm-dampness results from spleen yang deficiency. If the spleen and stomach lose their normal transforming and transporting functions and fail to convert fluids into usable body fluids, obesity may occur.
  2. Pallor
Due to spleen deficiency with dampness, the distribution of body fluids becomes disordered, leading to changes in facial skin and resulting in a pale complexion.
  3. Limb Fatigue
When phlegm-dampness obstructs muscles, tendons, and bones, it causes symptoms of limb weakness and fatigue.
  II. Management Methods
  1. Dietary Adjustment
Individuals with a phlegm-dampness constitution should avoid raw, cold, greasy, and sweet foods that tend to increase dampness. Instead, they may consume more foods that clear heat, detoxify, promote diuresis, and eliminate dampness, such as coix seed (yi yi ren), water chestnut (bi ji), celery, and Chinese yam (shan yao).
  2. Appropriate Exercise
Regular physical activity helps enhance metabolism and induce sweating, which facilitates the elimination of phlegm-dampness. Suitable exercises include walking, jogging, and practicing tai chi.
  3. Medication
If symptoms are severe, patients may take herbal medicines under medical supervision, such as Pinellia (ban xia), Poria (fu ling), Alisma (ze xie), and bitter apricot seed (ku xing ren).
In addition to the above symptoms and management strategies, individuals may also experience poor appetite and a greasy sensation in the mouth. These can be improved through proper lifestyle management, including maintaining adequate sleep, avoiding staying up late, and ensuring fresh, well-ventilated indoor air.
