Introduction
Under normal circumstances, plantain herb cannot treat sinusitis. Sinusitis is mainly an inflammation caused by pathogens infecting the mucous membranes of the sinuses, whereas plantain herb primarily functions to promote diuresis, remove dampness, clear liver heat to improve vision, and clear heat to detoxify. Therefore, plantain herb is not effective for treating sinusitis. Sinusitis is a common condition with a high prevalence in the population and can be classified into two types: acute and chronic sinusitis.

In general, plantain herb (Plantago asiatica) cannot treat sinusitis. The details are as follows:

Sinusitis is primarily an inflammation caused by pathogen infection of the sinus mucosa, whereas plantain herb mainly functions to promote urination, remove dampness, clear liver heat, improve vision, and detoxify. Therefore, plantain herb is not effective for treating sinusitis. Sinusitis is a common condition with high prevalence in the population and can be classified into acute and chronic types. Acute sinusitis is mostly caused by upper respiratory tract infections, and bacterial and viral infections may occur simultaneously. Chronic sinusitis is more common than the acute form and often involves multiple sinuses at the same time. Plantain herb is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant known for its effects of clearing heat, promoting urination, and improving liver-related vision problems. It can be used to treat conditions such as red and painful eyes or cough with excessive phlegm. Thus, this traditional Chinese herb has no therapeutic effect on sinusitis. Patients with acute sinusitis generally require appropriate medication under medical supervision, including nasal sprays such as triamcinolone acetonide nasal spray, or oral antibiotics prescribed by a doctor, such as roxithromycin tablets or amoxicillin capsules. For patients with chronic sinusitis, treatment is recommended under medical guidance using oral antibiotics such as cefixime dispersible tablets or cefradine capsules; if the response to medication is inadequate, endoscopic sinus surgery may be considered.

Patients with sinusitis should avoid blindly using medications and are advised to take drugs under the guidance of a physician to prevent delayed diagnosis and worsening of the condition.
