Introduction
In general, for lower abdominal surgery, disinfection is performed centered on the surgical incision, followed by draping. The drapes should be placed first over the lower abdomen and perineum, and finally on the side closest to the operator. Then, towel clamps should be used to secure the corners to prevent movement. It is recommended that the arms used for disinfection avoid contact with sterile drapes near the surgical site. When placing the drapes, only the edges and corners of the drape should be touched with the hands.
In general, for lower abdominal surgery, disinfection is centered on the surgical incision, followed by draping. The draping should begin with the lower abdomen and perineal area, ending with the side closest to the operator, and the corners should be secured with towel clamps to prevent movement. 1. Position the patient supine. Use iodophor to disinfect the area, starting from the center of the surgical incision and moving outward. The disinfected area should extend approximately 15 cm around the planned incision site. Perform three rounds of disinfection, each with a progressively smaller area.
2. After disinfection, proceed with draping. First place the drape over the perineal region, then the opposite side, and finally the side where the surgeon is standing.
3. Secure the drapes with towel clamps, and have the surgeon and assistant work together to lay the intermediate sheets.
4. Once the surgeon has put on the surgical gown, place the final sterile fenestrated drape to complete the draping process.
It is recommended that the arms used for disinfection avoid contact with sterile dressings near the surgical site. During draping, only the edges and corners of the surgical drapes should be touched by hands.
