Steps for disinfection and draping in lower abdominal surgery
Generally, disinfection and draping are essential steps in lower abdominal surgery, aimed at eliminating bacteria from the skin at the intended incision site and surrounding areas to prevent bacterial contamination of the wound. The specific procedures are as follows:
1. Use medical alcohol or iodophor to disinfect the area concentrically from the center of the surgical incision outward in an overlapping manner, covering approximately a 15 cm radius around the incision.
2. Perform disinfection three times, with each subsequent round covering a slightly smaller area than the previous one.
3. After disinfection, proceed with draping. When placing the small drape, hold both sides at the one-quarter points with both hands and position the drape 5 cm away from the marked incision line. Secure the small drape with four towel clamps after placement.
4. After placing the small drape, position medium-sized drapes over the head and foot sides of the patient. Then, put on the surgical gown and sterile gloves before placing the large drape.
5. When placing the large drape, align its central opening with the marked incision line, ensuring the front portion covers over the headrest and that the draped edges hang at least 30 cm below the level of the operating table.
During draping, ensure the patient is under anesthesia and unconscious. Strictly adhere to aseptic principles to prevent infection.
