Introduction
Ectopic pregnancy refers to a pregnancy that occurs outside the uterine cavity. In general, ectopic pregnancy cannot be diagnosed by pulse examination. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pulse diagnosis can detect pregnancy, but it cannot determine whether the pregnancy is ectopic, because both ectopic and normal pregnancies may present with a slippery pulse. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy process in which the fertilized egg implants and develops outside the uterine cavity, with tubal pregnancy being the most common type.

Ectopic pregnancy refers to a pregnancy that occurs outside the uterine cavity. Generally, ectopic pregnancy cannot be diagnosed through pulse examination in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). While TCM pulse diagnosis can detect pregnancy, it cannot determine whether the pregnancy is ectopic, because both ectopic and normal pregnancies may present with a "slippery pulse." The specific analysis is as follows:

Ectopic pregnancy refers to an abnormal pregnancy process in which the fertilized egg implants and develops outside the uterine cavity, most commonly in the fallopian tube. TCM pulse diagnosis assesses pregnancy by observing the characteristics of the pulse. Since ectopic pregnancy is still a form of pregnancy, it can be detected as a positive sign of pregnancy during pulse examination. However, pulse diagnosis alone generally cannot distinguish between normal and ectopic pregnancy. Diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy primarily relies on clinical symptoms, ultrasound imaging, and blood tests for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels. Therefore, it is recommended that patients visit a hospital for an ultrasound scan around 40 days after conception to confirm the diagnosis—this cannot be achieved through TCM methods, as TCM pulse reading can only indicate the presence of pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancy is relatively common in clinical practice and is not a normal condition. Although early symptoms in women may not differ significantly from those of a normal pregnancy, as the embryo grows, more severe symptoms such as intense abdominal pain or persistent bleeding may develop. Immediate medical attention and emergency treatment are required; otherwise, rupture can lead to rapid internal bleeding, potentially resulting in hemorrhagic shock.

After confirming pregnancy, women should promptly go to the hospital to check for ectopic pregnancy. If diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy, timely treatment under medical supervision is essential.
