Tenderness on percussion in the liver area
In general, pain upon percussion in the liver area may be associated with conditions such as hepatitis, hepatobiliary duct stones, liver cirrhosis, intrahepatic stones, or liver abscesses. Patients are advised to follow medical advice for symptomatic treatment. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Hepatitis
Hepatitis is an inflammatory liver disease caused by various factors including microbial infections, immune responses, and medications. Patients may experience symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, and other discomforts. Percussion over the liver area may elicit pain. For alcoholic hepatitis, abstinence from alcohol is essential, along with supplementation of vitamins A, B, E, folic acid, and trace elements under medical guidance. For viral hepatitis, antiviral medications should be administered according to medical advice, such as tenofovir capsules, lamivudine tablets, and daclatasvir tablets.
2. Hepatobiliary Duct Stones
These refer to stones located above the confluence of the left and right hepatic ducts and can also cause pain upon liver area percussion. Under medical supervision, antibiotic therapy may be used, such as cefradine for injection, ceftriaxone sodium for injection, and clindamycin capsules. When necessary, surgical interventions such as choledochotomy for stone removal, biliary-enteric anastomosis, or hepatectomy may be required.
3. Liver Cirrhosis
This is one of the major causes of chronic liver disease and may lead to liver enlargement and pain. For liver pain caused by cirrhosis, medications such as adefovir dipivoxil tablets or furosemide tablets may be used under medical guidance.
4. Intrahepatic Stones
Intrahepatic stones are hard deposits formed within the liver and may cause liver pain. It is recommended that patients use medications such as glyceryl trinitrate solution, atorvastatin calcium capsules, or lidocaine hydrochloride injection under medical advice.
5. Liver Abscess
A liver abscess is a condition caused by infection within the liver and may result in liver pain. Patients are advised to take medications such as cefuroxime axetil granules or metronidazole tablets as directed by a physician.
In addition, liver pain may also be related to liver cancer or other liver lesions. If any discomfort occurs, prompt medical consultation is recommended for timely and targeted treatment to avoid disease progression.
