What is NCT examination?
NCT, also known as non-contact tonometry, is an ophthalmic examination used to measure intraocular pressure and is one of the primary tests for diagnosing glaucoma. Specific details are as follows:
NTC testing is a non-invasive method that evaluates whether intraocular pressure is within the normal range by measuring eye pressure. It offers advantages such as simple operation, short examination time, and prevention of cross-infection. Normally, NCT readings should fall between 10–21 mmHg, with a difference of no more than 5 mmHg between the two eyes. If the measured eye pressure is within the normal range, there is generally no cause for concern. However, if the pressure is below or above the normal range, it may indicate conditions such as glaucoma or cataracts, and may be accompanied by symptoms like dizziness, headache, blurred vision, or a sensation of fullness and pain in the eyes. In such cases, patients are advised to seek timely medical evaluation and appropriate treatment to prevent disease progression.
In addition, if patients experience any eye discomfort in daily life, they should promptly consult a doctor and undergo relevant examinations. They should also maintain a light diet, avoid excessive consumption of spicy or irritating foods, and perform eye exercises appropriately.
