Introduction
Granulomatous mastitis, also known as granulomatous lobular mastitis, may lead to complications such as skin ulcers, erythema nodosum, breast masses, nipple discharge, and mammary fistula. Patients are advised to follow medical instructions for symptomatic treatment. In addition, sepsis can also be a complication of granulomatous lobular mastitis.

Granulomatous mastitis, also known as granulomatous lobular mastitis, may lead to various complications including skin ulcers, erythema nodosum, breast masses, nipple discharge, and mammary fistulas. Patients are advised to follow medical instructions for symptomatic treatment. Specific details are as follows:

1. Skin Ulcer

Granulomatous lobular mastitis may cause breast lumps. If left untreated for a prolonged period, these lumps may rupture and discharge pus, leading to skin ulcers. Medications such as amoxicillin capsules or roxithromycin granules may be used under medical guidance.

2. Erythema Nodosum

Granulomatous lobular mastitis can be complicated by erythema nodosum, which presents as tender, red subcutaneous nodules. In acute cases, prodromal symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, and cough may appear 1–3 weeks before the onset of erythema nodosum. Drugs such as colchicine or hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets may be prescribed under medical supervision.

3. Breast Mass

The presence of breast lumps may alter the appearance of the breast. If not treated promptly, these lumps may undergo malignant transformation, resulting in persistent breast masses. Medications such as Rupixiao tablets or Guizhi Fuling capsules may be used as directed by a physician.

4. Nipple Discharge

In severe cases, pus may accumulate in the nipple area, causing abnormal nipple discharge. Topical treatments such as desonide cream or oral medications like enteric-coated erythromycin tablets may be used under medical advice.

5. Mammary Fistula

If a breast abscess is not promptly treated and ruptures, it may develop into a fistula or sinus tract, leading to chronic, non-healing disease. Medications such as penicillin V potassium tablets or amoxicillin capsules may be prescribed according to medical instructions.

In addition, granulomatous lobular mastitis may also lead to sepsis. If patients experience any discomfort, they should seek timely medical evaluation and receive targeted treatment to avoid disease progression.
