Introduction
In general, the absence of lunula (the "half-moon" shape) on fingernails may be normal or abnormal. In some individuals, it could be due to a thick and broad eponychium (cuticle tissue) that covers more of the newly formed nail. If there are no accompanying physical symptoms or discomfort, excessive concern is usually unnecessary. However, individuals experiencing any abnormalities should seek timely medical attention and receive standardized treatment under a doctor's guidance, which can help promote recovery.

In general, the absence of lunulae (the white half-moon shapes) on fingernails may be normal or abnormal. The specific analysis is as follows:

1. Normal

The presence or absence of lunulae on fingernails may relate to individual constitution, nail growth rate, and other factors. Due to differences in body constitution and nail development, not everyone will have visible lunulae. In some people, the eponychium (the layer of skin at the base of the nail) may be thick and wide, covering more of the newly formed nail. Others may have slow nail growth, preventing the lunula from being pushed forward and thus making it invisible. If there are no accompanying physical discomforts, there is usually no need for excessive concern.

2. Abnormal

The lack of lunulae may also be caused by underlying medical conditions, which would be considered abnormal. Symptoms such as nails turning pale may indicate nutritional deficiencies—for example, prolonged inadequate nutrient intake leading to deficiencies in vitamins or trace elements, resulting in the disappearance of lunulae. Additionally, if a person has paronychia (nail fold infection) with surrounding tissue abscess, the lunula may also disappear. Patients are advised to consume fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C and, under medical guidance, promptly use medications such as amoxicillin capsules or enteric-coated erythromycin tablets as appropriate.

It is recommended that patients seek timely medical attention when experiencing any abnormalities and receive standardized treatment under a doctor's guidance to promote recovery.
