Can double eyelids turn into single eyelids?
In general, double eyelids may turn into single eyelids under certain conditions. This change can be associated with factors such as nerve damage, excessive fatigue, myopia, ptosis (drooping eyelids), or eyeball atrophy. The condition can usually be improved through methods including eye massage, medication, eye rotation exercises, hyaluronic acid injections, suture ligation,埋线 (non-incisional) double eyelid surgery, full incision double eyelid surgery, and epicanthoplasty (eye corner opening surgery).
When the oculomotor or related nerves are damaged, leading to impaired contraction or lifting of the eyelid muscles and resulting in the transformation from double to single eyelids, eye massage and warm compresses may help. Medications such as mouse nerve growth factor injection or vitamin B1 injection may also be used as directed by a physician. For cases caused by prolonged eye use, lack of rest, and insufficient sleep—leading to fatigue of the eye muscles and skin—it is important to ensure adequate sleep and regularly perform eye rotation exercises or massage to improve symptoms. In cases of myopia where axial elongation of the eye affects eyelid support and makes double eyelids less visible, regular eye examinations are recommended, along with eye rotation exercises for relaxation or hyaluronic acid injections for improvement. For ptosis-induced conversion from double to single eyelids, suture ligation may be an effective treatment option.
