What causes laryngitis?
Generally, laryngitis may be caused by factors such as excessive voice use, irregular lifestyle habits, upper respiratory tract infections, gastroesophageal reflux, and diabetes. When the above conditions occur, it is recommended to seek timely medical treatment. The specific analysis is as follows:
1. Excessive Voice Use
Prolonged loud speaking, singing, or public speaking can lead to excessive vibration and friction of the vocal cords, causing congestion and swelling of the vocal cords and resulting in laryngitis. It is important to avoid overusing the voice in daily life.
2. Irregular Lifestyle Habits
Irregular sleep patterns and unbalanced diets—such as consuming too many spicy or irritating foods and lack of physical activity—can easily reduce the body's immunity, making the throat more susceptible to infection and leading to laryngitis. Maintaining regular作息 (daily routines) and avoiding irritating foods are essential preventive measures.
3. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
Upper respiratory tract infections are mostly caused by bacterial infections. During such infections, viruses or bacteria can invade the mucous membranes of the larynx, leading to mucosal congestion and edema, thus causing the aforementioned symptoms. These may be accompanied by nasal congestion, runny nose, and other symptoms. Patients should follow medical advice to take medications such as compound paracetamol and amantadine tablets, azithromycin tablets, or isatis root granules for treatment.
4. Gastroesophageal Reflux
Poor lifestyle habits such as long-term alcohol consumption, smoking, and overeating, as well as underlying stomach diseases, may cause gastric acid and stomach contents to reflux into the pharynx and larynx, irritating the mucous membranes and triggering laryngitis. Symptoms may include acid regurgitation and heartburn. Treatment should follow medical guidance using medications such as omeprazole enteric-coated capsules, domperidone tablets, or ranitidine tablets.
5. Diabetes
Diabetes may result from genetic factors, unhealthy lifestyles, or immune system abnormalities. A prolonged state of high blood sugar can disrupt vascular constriction and dilation functions, leading to chronic congestion in the larynx and secondary chronic laryngitis. This may be accompanied by symptoms such as palpitations and edema. Treatment should be conducted under a doctor’s supervision using medications such as metformin tablets, glipizide tablets, or insulin aspart injection.
To prevent laryngitis, it is important to protect the voice and maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, moderate exercise, regular作息 (sleep-wake cycles), and avoidance of harmful habits.
