Introduction
Keloid scars are typically caused by abnormal proliferation of intradermal connective tissue and are considered a type of pathological scar. This type of scar presents as a round or oval red lump at the affected site, often accompanied by symptoms such as pain or itching. Because the connective tissue has already undergone abnormal growth, these scars generally do not resolve spontaneously. If treatment is delayed, the condition may worsen.
Generally speaking, scars refer to cicatrix. Keloid scars usually do not heal spontaneously. Detailed analysis is as follows:
Keloid scars are usually caused by abnormal proliferation of connective tissue within the skin and are considered a type of pathological scar. Although keloid scars are difficult to eliminate completely once formed, patients can improve the condition and reduce the appearance of the scars through laser therapy, drug injections, physical therapy, and other methods. Medications used for reducing scars include asiaticoside cream, recombinant human epidermal growth factor gel, and tranilast capsules.
During treatment, patients should keep the affected area clean, avoid consuming spicy or irritating foods to prevent worsening of the condition. Additionally, effective preventive measures can be taken to reduce the risk of keloid recurrence.
