Can I drink water the night before measuring my blood sugar?
Generally, it is permissible to drink water the night before measuring blood glucose, but the amount should be controlled. The analysis is as follows:

For fasting blood glucose testing, no food should be consumed after 10 PM the previous night, and testing should be conducted around 8 AM the following morning, requiring at least 8 hours of fasting. Small amounts of water typically do not interfere with fasting blood glucose measurements because water is rapidly absorbed and metabolized by the body and does not cause significant fluctuations in blood glucose levels. Blood glucose should be tested at least 8 hours after drinking water. If water was consumed more than 8 hours before testing, it generally will not affect the blood glucose results as it will have already been metabolized.
Although moderate water intake usually does not affect blood glucose test results, excessive water consumption may dilute the blood, thereby slightly lowering blood glucose concentrations. During postprandial (after-meal) blood glucose testing, if monitoring is required, specific instructions from a doctor or laboratory personnel should be followed, and excessive water intake immediately after a meal should be avoided to ensure the accuracy of the blood glucose results.
On the day before blood glucose testing, high-sugar, high-fat, and high-calorie foods should be avoided. Carbohydrate intake should be controlled, and low-sugar, low-fat, high-fiber foods are recommended.
