Introduction
In general, liver function tests cannot definitively diagnose palmar erythema (liver palms). Liver function tests are examinations that use biochemical assays to measure various indicators related to liver function and metabolism, reflecting the basic status of liver function. These tests primarily focus on physiological functions and pathological changes in the liver, such as the metabolism and excretion of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, bilirubin, and bile acids.

Generally, liver function tests cannot confirm the diagnosis of palmar erythema (liver palms). Detailed analysis is as follows:

Liver function tests are examinations that assess various indicators related to liver metabolism through biochemical methods, reflecting the basic status of liver function. These tests mainly focus on physiological functions and pathological changes in the liver, such as the metabolism and excretion of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, bilirubin, and bile acids, as well as changes in enzymatic indicators. Palmar erythema is a pathological condition characterized by patchy redness, red spots, or patches on the skin of the palms (particularly the thenar and hypothenar eminences), caused by liver disease. It is an external manifestation of liver disease rather than a direct indicator of impaired liver function. Therefore, liver function tests may not directly detect the presence of palmar erythema.

Palmar erythema is closely associated with various liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. During the progression of these diseases, declining liver function may lead to the development of palmar erythema. However, due to the strong compensatory capacity of the liver, liver function test results may still fall within the normal range even when liver function has been somewhat impaired. Additionally, palmar erythema can also occur in non-liver diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and malnutrition, making it even more difficult to confirm palmar erythema solely through liver function testing.

In daily life, it is important to avoid consuming foods or medications that may加重 liver burden, such as high-fat, high-sugar, high-salt foods, and over-the-counter drugs.
