Introduction
Pulse diagnosis is a traditional Chinese medical diagnostic method that has certain reference value in determining pregnancy, but it is not absolutely accurate. Generally, pregnancy can be assessed by observing the smoothness and lubrication of the pulse, feeling the strength and rhythm of the pulse, determining the pulse rate, comprehensively observing other bodily symptoms, and paying attention to individual differences in pulse characteristics.

Pulse diagnosis is a traditional Chinese medical diagnostic method that has certain reference value in determining pregnancy, but it is not absolutely accurate. Generally, pregnancy can be assessed by observing the smoothness of the pulse, feeling the strength and circulation of the pulse, determining the pulse beat frequency, comprehensively observing other physical symptoms, and noting individual differences in pulse characteristics. The detailed analysis is as follows:

  1. Observing the smoothness of the pulse: During pulse diagnosis in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), if the pulse feels round and smooth like a bead, flowing easily back and forth, it is referred to as a "slippery pulse," commonly known as the "joyful pulse." If a woman's pulse exhibits the characteristics of a slippery pulse, it may indicate pregnancy. This is because after pregnancy, the woman's qi and blood activities increase, making the pulse smoother.

  2. Feeling the strength and circulation of the pulse: The pulse of a pregnant woman is usually stronger and has a sense of circular movement. This is because the heart's workload increases during pregnancy and blood circulation accelerates, resulting in a stronger and more circulatory pulse.

  3. Determining the pulse beat frequency: Under normal circumstances, the pulse beats at a frequency of 60 to 100 times per minute. If the pulse frequency changes—for example, if it becomes faster than usual without any sense of hesitation—this may also be a sign of pregnancy. However, this method needs to be used in combination with other symptoms for accurate assessment.

  4. Comprehensive observation of other physical symptoms: When using pulse diagnosis to determine pregnancy, it is also necessary to comprehensively observe other physical symptoms in the woman. For example, whether she is experiencing early pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or excessive sleepiness. Combining these symptoms with pulse characteristics can further improve the accuracy of the assessment.

  5. Noting individual differences in pulse characteristics: However, each person's pulse has individual variations. Therefore, when using pulse diagnosis to determine pregnancy, it is also necessary to consider factors such as the woman's age, physical constitution, and menstrual status comprehensively. Additionally, this method should be performed under the guidance of a qualified TCM practitioner to ensure accuracy.

If you suspect you are pregnant, it is recommended to use other diagnostic methods, such as urine pregnancy tests or gynecological ultrasound examinations, to confirm the pregnancy.
