Introduction
Under normal circumstances, women should not drink saffron (Crocus sativus) steeped in water during their menstrual period. Saffron is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb that has functions such as promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis and regulating menstruation. However, during the menstrual period, a woman's body is in a special physiological state, with the shedding of the endometrium accompanied by bleeding. Taking saffron at this time may lead to increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstruation, and even cause anemia.

Generally speaking, saffron tea should not be consumed during menstruation. The specific reasons are as follows:

Saffron is a traditional Chinese herb known for its functions of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, and regulating menstruation. However, during the menstrual period, a woman's body is in a special physiological state, with the shedding of the uterine lining accompanied by bleeding. Consuming saffron at this time may lead to increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period, and even anemia. Additionally, saffron might stimulate the uterus, worsening menstrual discomfort; therefore, it is not recommended to drink saffron tea during this period.

Furthermore, for patients with conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps, or coagulation disorders, saffron consumption may increase the risk of abnormal bleeding. During menstruation, if one intends to use traditional Chinese herbs, personal health conditions should be fully considered, and medical advice should be sought when necessary to avoid blind self-medication and ensure efficacy and safety.

During the menstrual period, it is advisable to maintain healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating light meals and avoiding staying up late, to support overall health.
