Introduction
Two-hour postprandial blood glucose is an important indicator for evaluating glucose metabolism, with a normal range of ≤7.8 mmol/L. This value is measured starting from the first bite of food, using venous plasma glucose testing. If the two-hour postprandial blood glucose level is between 7.8 and 11.1 mmol/L, it indicates "impaired glucose tolerance," which is considered prediabetes, even though it has not yet reached the diagnostic criteria for diabetes.

The normal postprandial (after-meal) 2-hour blood glucose level is generally ≤7.8 mmol/L.

Postprandial 2-hour blood glucose is an important indicator for evaluating glucose metabolism, with a normal range of ≤7.8 mmol/L. This value is measured starting from the first bite of food, using venous plasma glucose testing. If the postprandial 2-hour blood glucose level falls between 7.8 and 11.1 mmol/L, it indicates "impaired glucose tolerance," which is considered prediabetes. Although this does not meet the diagnostic criteria for diabetes, caution is warranted, as lifestyle interventions such as dietary adjustments and increased physical activity can help reduce the risk of progressing to diabetes.

If the level is ≥11.1 mmol/L and accompanied by symptoms such as excessive thirst, increased appetite, frequent urination, and weight loss, it meets the diagnostic criteria for diabetes. It is important to note that prior to testing, individuals should maintain a normal diet with carbohydrate intake of no less than 150 grams per day, avoiding intentional fasting or overeating. Additionally, during the testing period, one should sit quietly and avoid strenuous activity. Emotional stress, certain medications (such as corticosteroids), and pregnancy can also affect test results.

A single abnormal result should not cause excessive anxiety, but repeated elevations warrant timely medical consultation. A definitive diagnosis and proper management should be based on a combination of tests, including fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). In daily life, maintaining a balanced and diverse diet is recommended to help sustain good health.
