Can I take Huinai Bao during menstruation?
Generally, if there are no discomforts during the menstrual period, Rui Naibao (a traditional Chinese medicine) can be taken, but it should be used under the guidance of a physician. However, if discomfort occurs during menstruation, it is not recommended. Detailed explanation is as follows:
Rui Naibao is a traditional Chinese medicine primarily composed of barley malt, immature bitter orange, fermented soybean, cicada slough, and hawthorn fermenting fungus, and does not contain blood-activating or blood-stopping ingredients. It is mainly used to assist in weaning, alleviate excessive milk production, breast swelling and pain, and other symptoms by reducing the secretion of prolactin to decrease milk production, while promoting contraction of breast tissue and drainage of fluid, thereby relieving breast fullness and discomfort. If a woman is in the weaning period and needs continuous suppression of lactation, and experiences no unusual menstrual symptoms such as abnormal menstrual flow or severe dysmenorrhea during her menstrual period, she may take Rui Naibao at the regular dosage under medical supervision.
Although Rui Naibao has no direct effect on menstruation, individual constitutions vary. A small number of women may experience adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea after taking Rui Naibao. For those with originally heavy menstrual flow or anemia, if symptoms such as worsening abdominal pain, dizziness, or fatigue occur during medication, the drug should be discontinued immediately and medical attention sought.
While taking Rui Naibao, breastfeeding should be avoided to prevent the drug's components from affecting the infant's health through breast milk.
