Introduction
Onions have several contraindications in terms of diet and medication. Regarding food, they should not be consumed with honey, kelp, fish, shrimp, or soybeans, as this may easily cause gastrointestinal discomfort and affect nutrient absorption. Concerning medications, taking onions together with five types of drugs—including vitamin K1, clopidogrel sulfate, and aspirin enteric-coated tablets—may interfere with drug efficacy and increase the risk of adverse reactions.

There are禁忌 (taboos) regarding dietary pairing with onions. Generally, onions should not be consumed with foods such as honey, kelp, fish, shrimp, soybeans, etc., nor should they be taken with medications such as vitamin K1, clopidogrel sulfate, aspirin enteric-coated tablets, simvastatin tablets, and nifedipine sustained-release tablets. The specific analysis is as follows:

I. Foods

1. Honey: Honey is rich in various sugars such as glucose and fructose, while onions contain organic acids. When consumed together, a chemical reaction may occur under the action of gastric acid, possibly causing symptoms such as diarrhea, gastrointestinal discomfort, and affecting digestive function.

2. Kelp: Kelp contains abundant iodine and calcium, while onions contain oxalic acid. When kelp and onions are consumed together, calcium and oxalic acid may combine to form calcium oxalate precipitate, not only reducing nutrient absorption but also potentially increasing the risk of stone formation.

3. Fish: Fish meat is rich in high-quality protein, while onions contain large amounts of oxalic acid and phytic acid. When consumed together, oxalic acid and phytic acid may bind with the protein in fish meat to form substances that are difficult to digest, hindering protein absorption and possibly causing indigestion.

4. Shrimp: Shrimp contains abundant protein and minerals such as calcium, while onions contain tannic acid. Tannic acid in onions may combine with calcium in shrimp to form insoluble calcium salts, reducing calcium absorption and possibly irritating the gastrointestinal tract, causing discomfort such as abdominal pain and nausea.

5. Soybeans: Soybeans are rich in nutrients such as protein, calcium, phosphorus, and iron, while onions contain significant dietary fiber and certain bioactive substances. When consumed together, some components in onions may affect the digestion and absorption of protein from soybeans, thereby reducing their nutritional value.

II. Medications

1. Vitamin K1: Vitamin K1 participates in the human blood coagulation process, while onions have anticoagulant effects. Taking them together may counteract each other's effects, affecting normal blood clotting function, which is detrimental to health and may increase the risk of bleeding.

2. Clopidogrel Sulfate: Clopidogrel sulfate is an antiplatelet aggregation drug, while onions themselves also have antiplatelet effects. Combining them may enhance the antiplatelet effect, prolong bleeding time, and increase the likelihood of bleeding disorders.

3. Aspirin Enteric-Coated Tablets: Aspirin enteric-coated tablets belong to the category of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Taking them with onions may intensify irritation to the gastrointestinal mucosa, significantly increasing the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions such as gastric ulcers and gastric bleeding.

4. Simvastatin Tablets: Simvastatin tablets are statin drugs used to regulate blood lipids. Certain components in onions may affect the metabolism of simvastatin in the liver, causing changes in drug concentration in the body and increasing the risk of adverse drug reactions.

5. Nifedipine Sustained-Release Tablets: Nifedipine sustained-release tablets are commonly used antihypertensive drugs. Onions themselves have a certain blood pressure-lowering effect. If taken together with nifedipine sustained-release tablets, it may cause excessively low blood pressure, leading to symptoms such as dizziness and fatigue associated with hypotension, affecting blood pressure stability.

In daily diet and medication, when consuming onions, carefully check the ingredients of foods and drugs to avoid consuming them simultaneously with the above-mentioned foods and medications. If unsure whether certain foods or medications can be consumed with onions, consult a professional nutritionist or doctor to ensure dietary and medication safety.
