Introduction
Hematopoietic stem cell donation does not cause long-term complications. Prior to donation, donors receive injections of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), which mobilizes hematopoietic stem cells from the bone marrow into the peripheral bloodstream. A blood cell separator is then used to collect white blood cells from the peripheral blood; these collected white blood cells contain hematopoietic stem cells. Donors may experience mild bone pain or discomfort at the puncture site, but full recovery typically occurs within 3–5 days of rest.

With the increasing incidence of hematologic disorders, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has become increasingly critical. HSCT can treat numerous blood-related diseases and autoimmune conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, germ cell tumors, breast cancer, and small-cell lung cancer. Complications Following Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donation

Hematopoietic stem cell donation does not cause long-term complications or sequelae. In healthy individuals, hematopoietic stem cells reside primarily in the bone marrow, with negligible numbers circulating in peripheral blood. Prior to donation, donors receive daily subcutaneous injections of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) for four days. This medication mobilizes stem cells from the bone marrow into the peripheral circulation. On the fifth day, peripheral blood stem cells are collected via apheresis—a procedure using a cell separator to isolate white blood cells, which contain the hematopoietic stem cells. The entire donation process involves four days of G-CSF injections followed by one day of stem cell collection. Some donors may experience mild bone pain or discomfort at the needle puncture site; however, these symptoms typically resolve within 3–5 days of rest, with no lasting sequelae.

1. After donation, donors should ensure adequate rest and consume nutrient-rich foods to support recovery. With time and natural physiological regulation, any transient symptoms will gradually subside, and donors will return to their baseline health status.

2. Hematopoietic stem cell donation is actually beneficial to the bone marrow, as it stimulates the production of new blood cells—offering certain health benefits. Therefore, there is no need for excessive anxiety. Additionally, donors should take precautions to prevent infection at the injection or puncture site; otherwise, no major concerns exist.
