Introduction
In general, generalized weakness in patients with psychiatric disorders may be caused by inadequate nutritional intake, disrupted sleep patterns, the acute phase of schizophrenia, depressive episodes of bipolar disorder, or post-schizophrenic depression. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation, identify the underlying cause, and then improve symptoms through general measures, medication, or other treatments under a doctor's guidance.

In general, generalized weakness in patients with mental illness may be caused by inadequate nutrient intake, disrupted sleep patterns, the acute phase of schizophrenia, depressive episodes of bipolar disorder, or post-schizophrenic depression. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly, identify the underlying cause, and then improve symptoms under a doctor's guidance through non-pharmacological interventions, medications, and other treatments. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:

1. Inadequate nutrient intake: Patients often suffer from reduced appetite or poor self-care ability, leading to deficiencies in protein and vitamins and insufficient energy supply. Family members should prepare easily digestible foods such as egg custard and vegetable porridge, provide meals at regular times three times daily, and ensure balanced nutrition.

2. Disrupted sleep structure: Mental illness is often accompanied by difficulty falling asleep or early morning awakening. Long-term sleep deprivation prevents physical recovery and leads to fatigue. Establish a fixed bedtime at 10 p.m. each night, keep the bedroom quiet and dark, and soak feet in warm water before sleeping.

3. Acute phase of schizophrenia: Hallucinations and delusions consume significant mental energy, and side effects of antipsychotic medications may also cause weakness, often accompanied by behavioral disturbances. Patients should follow medical advice to take medications such as risperidone tablets, olanzapine tablets, or quetiapine fumarate tablets to control symptoms, rest in bed to reduce physical exertion, and receive personal hygiene assistance from family members.

4. Depressive episode of bipolar disorder: Low mood leads to lack of motivation and marked whole-body fatigue, along with diminished interest. Under medical supervision, medications such as lamotrigine tablets, sodium valproate sustained-release tablets, or lithium carbonate sustained-release tablets should be used. Additionally, accompany the patient on a 10-minute walk daily to gradually restore physical strength.

5. Post-schizophrenic depression: Prolonged illness leads to depressed mood, combined with physical discomfort, resulting in progressively worsening feelings of weakness. Follow medical advice to use medications such as aripiprazole tablets, ziprasidone capsules, or paliperidone extended-release tablets, combined with supportive psychotherapy to strengthen the patient’s confidence in recovery.

Daily diet should be low in salt and oil, with increased intake of iron- and protein-rich foods such as spinach and lean meat. Family members can help stimulate vitality by playing the patient’s favorite music or reminiscing about past experiences, avoid prolonged bed rest, and use comprehensive interventions to improve weakness and enhance quality of life.
