Introduction
After a scald from hot water, general measures include cooling the area with running cold water, removing clothing, soaking the affected area, covering the wound, and seeking medical attention promptly. Immediately flush the scalded area with continuous flowing cold water to lower skin temperature and minimize heat damage to deeper tissues. The water flow should not be too strong, and the ideal water temperature is between 15 to 20 degrees Celsius, with flushing continued for 15 to 20 minutes.

After a scald from hot water, general measures include cooling with running water, removing clothing, soaking the affected area, covering the wound, and seeking medical attention promptly. The specific steps are as follows:

1. Cooling with running water: Immediately rinse the scalded area with continuous cool running water to lower skin temperature and minimize heat damage to deeper tissues. The water flow should not be too strong, and the ideal water temperature is between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius. Continue rinsing for 15 to 20 minutes.

2. Removing clothing: If clothing covers the scalded area, gently remove it after rinsing with cold water to avoid tearing the skin. If the fabric adheres to the wound, use scissors to cut away the surrounding material while leaving the adhered portion undisturbed.

3. Soaking treatment: Immerse the scalded area in cool water to further relieve pain and swelling. Limit soaking time to 10–20 minutes, maintaining a consistent water temperature and avoiding fluctuations between hot and cold.

4. Covering the wound: Cover the scalded area with clean gauze or sterile dressing to prevent bacterial infection. Avoid using fluffy fabrics or applying ointments, which may worsen tissue damage or interfere with subsequent medical treatment.

5. Seeking medical attention: Immediate medical care is necessary if the scald covers a large area, is deep, or presents blisters or broken skin. A doctor will perform wound cleaning, dressing, or prescribe medication based on the severity of the injury.

As a preventive measure, keep hot water bottles, boiling liquids, and similar hazards out of children's reach. Stay alert when handling hot water to prevent accidents.
