What are the hemostatic drugs?
Hemostatic agents mainly include thrombin, tranexamic acid, vitamin K, epinephrine, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hemostatics. Different types of drugs have distinct mechanisms of action and should be selected according to the cause and site of bleeding under medical guidance. In cases of severe traumatic bleeding, internal organ bleeding, or persistent hemorrhage, prompt medical attention is recommended.
1. Thrombin agents: Promote activation of clotting factors to accelerate blood coagulation. Suitable for local wound bleeding such as surgical incisions and traumatic injuries. They can be applied directly via topical application or spray to achieve rapid hemostasis. Intravascular injection must be avoided.
2. Tranexamic acid agents: Inhibit fibrinolysis and reduce bleeding caused by thrombus breakdown. Commonly used during surgery, postpartum hemorrhage, and bleeding due to coagulation disorders. Dosage must be strictly controlled to avoid the risk of thrombosis.

3. Vitamin K agents: Participate in the synthesis of clotting factors. Indicated for bleeding caused by vitamin K deficiency, such as that resulting from intestinal malabsorption or long-term antibiotic use. Can be administered orally or by injection.
4. Epinephrine agents: Reduce bleeding by constricting blood vessels. Suitable for mucosal bleeding such as nosebleeds and gingival bleeding. Applied locally via topical application or packing to rapidly constrict vessels and stop bleeding. Use with caution in patients with hypertension.
5. Traditional Chinese medicine hemostatics: Such as Panax notoginseng preparations and Yunnan Baiyao, which function by promoting blood circulation to remove stasis and astringent hemostasis. Suitable for traumatic bleeding and swelling pain due to blood stasis. Can be used externally or taken orally, selection should follow TCM pattern differentiation.
When using hemostatic drugs, the cause of bleeding should be clearly identified to avoid blind medication. Follow instructions or medical advice regarding dosage and administration method. For topical medications, clean the wound before application. Store in a cool, dry place out of reach of children to ensure safe use.
