How to Administer Vaginal Suppositories

First, thoroughly cleanse the vagina of any abnormal discharge. Then, wearing a finger cot or sterile gloves, gently insert the suppository or tablet into the posterior vaginal fornix.

Vaginal suppository administration is a common gynecological treatment, typically indicated for conditions such as vaginitis, cervicitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Commonly prescribed medications include nystatin vaginal suppositories and nifuratel-nystatin vaginal soft capsules.

It is recommended that vaginal suppository administration be performed under the guidance of a qualified healthcare provider. If discomfort occurs after administration—such as severe vaginal pain or bleeding—discontinue use immediately, rinse the vagina thoroughly to remove residual medication, and seek prompt medical evaluation at a hospital.

After administration, avoid strenuous physical activity and sudden, large-range changes in body position. It is best to lie flat on bed, optionally elevating the lower limbs slightly. During treatment, also avoid spicy or irritating foods—including chili peppers, garlic, and mustard. Suppositories are ideally administered before bedtime; daytime administration may lead to partial expulsion due to routine activities, thereby reducing drug efficacy and compromising therapeutic outcomes. Sexual intercourse must be avoided throughout the treatment period to prevent exacerbation of the condition.

By now, you should have gained a basic understanding of proper vaginal suppository administration. Always consult your physician prior to use to fully understand the correct procedure and prevent improper usage that could impair drug effectiveness.
