Introduction
Under-eye bags and dark circles are primarily caused by factors such as sleep deprivation, eye strain, emotional instability, and aging. Due to slowed local venous blood flow, the skin around the eyes receives insufficient oxygen, while carbon dioxide and metabolic waste accumulate excessively in the venous blood—leading to chronic hypoxia. This results in localized skin darkening, manifesting as dark circles and under-eye bags. Treatment typically involves laser surgery; alternatively, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can also be performed to improve these conditions.

Dark circles and under-eye bags can develop for various reasons, negatively affecting facial aesthetics. But what exactly are dark circles and under-eye bags?

What Are Dark Circles and Under-Eye Bags?

Dark circles and under-eye bags are primarily caused by factors such as sleep deprivation, eye strain, emotional instability, and aging. Sluggish venous blood flow in the periorbital area leads to insufficient oxygen supply to the delicate skin around the eyes. Excess carbon dioxide and metabolic waste accumulate in the venous blood, resulting in chronic local hypoxia and subsequent darkening of the skin.

Dark circles and under-eye bags are typically treated with laser therapy or surgical removal of under-eye fat (blepharoplasty). Laser treatment delivers controlled thermal energy directly into the skin tissue, effectively breaking down pigment granules beneath the skin surface to improve localized hyperpigmentation. Additionally, it accelerates local metabolism, promoting rapid absorption of excess fat and thereby reducing under-eye bags. For severe cases of under-eye bags, surgical excision is generally required.

First and foremost, ensure adequate sleep and consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins. Avoid prolonged, uninterrupted computer use; take regular breaks—gaze into the distance or perform eye exercises to prevent dryness and discomfort. After surgery, meticulous local wound care is essential. Avoid rubbing the treated area, as this may increase infection risk, delay recovery, and even worsen dark circles and under-eye bags. We hope this information has been helpful to you.
