Introduction
Neurotic anxiety disorder is synonymous with anxiety disorder—a term used in earlier literature; today, it is commonly referred to simply as anxiety disorder. The hallmark symptoms of anxiety involve emotional experiences such as tension, restlessness, fear, excessive worry, and dread. These are often accompanied by various physical symptoms, most commonly palpitations, tachycardia, headache, and dizziness—all typical manifestations of anxiety.

Anxiety neurosis is a relatively common condition in daily life. Prompt treatment is essential upon onset to prevent disease progression. But what exactly is anxiety neurosis?

What Is Anxiety Neurosis?

“Anxiety neurosis” is an older term used in early medical literature to refer to what is now commonly called “anxiety disorder.” Its core symptoms involve emotional experiences of tension, unease, fear, excessive worry, and dread. These are often accompanied by various physical symptoms, including palpitations, tachycardia, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, mental fogginess, shortness of breath, urinary urgency or frequency, and muscle tension—all common manifestations of anxiety.

In more severe cases, patients may experience acute anxiety attacks—sudden, intense episodes occurring within minutes, characterized by extreme palpitations and shortness of breath, often accompanied by a terrifying sensation of impending death. During such episodes, patients frequently believe they are having a heart attack and rush to the emergency department. However, symptoms often begin to subside before reaching the hospital—or even en route—and comprehensive medical evaluation upon arrival typically reveals no significant abnormalities or objective evidence of cardiac disease. In such instances, acute anxiety attack should be strongly considered.

During recovery, it is important to cultivate healthy lifestyle habits: ensure adequate sleep, maintain a positive mood, and engage in relaxing activities such as traveling outdoors. We hope this information proves helpful to you!
