Introduction
In most cases, scalp swelling without pain may result from non-pathological factors—such as head trauma or allergic reactions—or pathological conditions—such as sebaceous cysts. I. Non-pathological factors: 1. Head trauma: Contusion of the scalp’s soft tissues may cause scalp swelling. Within 24 hours after injury, local application of ice packs can help promote absorption of the affected tissue.

Generally, scalp swelling without pain may result from non-pathological factors—such as head trauma or allergic reactions—or pathological conditions—such as sebaceous cysts.

I. Non-Pathological Factors

1. Head Trauma

Contusion of the scalp’s soft tissues may cause localized swelling. Within the first 24 hours after injury, local application of ice packs is recommended to reduce swelling and promote tissue absorption. After 24 hours, warm compresses may be applied to enhance local blood circulation.

2. Allergy

Contact with an allergen on the scalp may trigger swelling. It is advisable to avoid further exposure to the allergen and, under a physician’s guidance, initiate antihistamine therapy—for example, chlorpheniramine maleate tablets, promethazine hydrochloride tablets, or ebastine tablets.

II. Pathological Factors

Obstruction of the sebaceous gland duct leads to accumulation of sebum within the gland, resulting in a retention cyst (sebaceous cyst). These cysts are typically soft in consistency and cause painless scalp swelling. Regular follow-up examinations are usually sufficient; however, if the condition worsens, surgical excision of the sebaceous cyst may be required.

In addition, excessive sebum production or endocrine imbalance may also contribute to such symptoms. Patients are advised to seek timely medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital.
