What Causes Red Spots on the Skin?
Skin—the largest organ of the human body—is influenced by numerous factors and may occasionally develop red spots. Specific causes include the following:
① Skin Allergy
Red spots accompanied by swelling, fever, or respiratory difficulty may indicate a skin allergic reaction. Upon exposure to an allergen, numerous small red spots may appear on the skin. Some patients experience no pruritus, whereas others suffer intense itching.
② Endocrine Imbalance
Habitual behaviors such as excessive alcohol consumption, chronic sleep deprivation, and frequent intake of spicy foods can disrupt normal hormonal secretion, potentially leading to the appearance of small red spots on the skin. Typically, these spots resolve spontaneously after adjusting one’s sleep-wake cycle and lifestyle for a period of time.
③ Subcutaneous Hemorrhage
Red spots caused by subcutaneous hemorrhage usually appear bright red initially and gradually fade to brown or tan over several days—indicating localized bleeding beneath the skin surface. As blood clots and breaks down, it turns brown; however, these spots generally resolve spontaneously without requiring specific treatment. If the spots recur persistently or fail to fade, prompt medical evaluation is recommended to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate care.
