Can patients with kidney stones drink alcohol?
Disease description:
I am a kidney stone patient. Due to my constitution being relatively cold in nature, I am hesitant to try many foods and beverages. However, during the Spring Festival, I will be visiting my father-in-law’s home, and friends have suggested that I drink some alcohol. May I ask: Is it safe for kidney stone patients to consume alcohol?
The patient currently has kidney stones, which are likely related to underlying metabolic abnormalities. Alcohol consumption is not recommended at this time, as it may disrupt renal metabolism, lead to hyperuricemia, and increase the risk of kidney stone formation. Therefore, the patient should avoid alcohol entirely. Additionally, foods such as soy products and seafood should be avoided. A light, low-purine diet is recommended.
