Every winter, my nostrils become extremely dry. Recently, the dryness has become particularly severe—every morning upon waking, my nose feels very dry, and sometimes it’s so dry that even light contact causes bleeding. Could you please explain what causes nasal dryness?

Drink plenty of warm boiled water, as dehydration can also cause nasal dryness. Consume more fruits with high water content. Pay attention to whether the indoor environment is excessively dry; a humidifier may be used to regulate air humidity. Look inward for potential causes and learn to adapt to your surroundings. Avoid foods that tend to cause “internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept), and abstain from smoking and alcohol. Consult a physician at a hospital to rule out nasal conditions such as dry rhinitis, atrophic rhinitis, or vestibulitis of the nose.
