What Is the Appropriate Age for Getting Braces?
Disease description:
I’ve always wanted to get orthodontic treatment, but I feel I’m too old for it. I’d like to know the appropriate age range for wearing braces.
Orthodontic treatment should be tailored to individual circumstances and the specific type of dental malocclusion; there is no strict age restriction. Generally, earlier intervention during childhood yields better outcomes—for instance, conditions such as anterior crossbite, open lips with exposed teeth (gapped smile), and other dental anomalies can be addressed as early as age four or five. Adults may also undergo orthodontic treatment; however, because the jawbones are fully developed, treatment typically requires a longer duration—often approximately two years of consistent appliance wear—to achieve effective results.
