Breast milk is widely regarded as the best natural food for infants; therefore, breastfeeding can generally continue even when a newborn develops breast milk jaundice. However, the decision should be guided by the infant’s serum total bilirubin level: if the serum total bilirubin exceeds 275 µmol/L, breastfeeding should be temporarily discontinued for 3–5 days. Once the jaundice has resolved or significantly improved, breastfeeding may be resumed.
