Lately, I’ve felt my face looks larger. A friend mentioned that I could undergo “cheekbone grinding and mandibular contouring.” What exactly is cheekbone grinding and mandibular contouring?

Mandibular angle reduction (also known as “jaw shaving” or “jaw contouring”) is a cosmetic surgical procedure. Typically, the surgery involves making an incision inside the mouth near the mandibular angle, followed by complete osteotomy—cutting both the inner and outer cortical layers of the excess mandibular bone. Subsequently, the outer surface of the remaining mandibular bone is further contoured and thinned via grinding to achieve a slimmer facial appearance. However, this procedure carries relatively high surgical risks; therefore, it must be performed by qualified, experienced surgeons to minimize the likelihood of complications or unsatisfactory outcomes.
