I’ve recently been experiencing fairly severe constipation. A colleague suggested I try an enema, and mentioned that coffee enemas are particularly beneficial. I’d like to ask—do coffee enemas offer any health benefits?

Coffee enemas offer certain benefits: they can help alleviate symptoms of colitis and cleanse the colon. During a coffee enema, coffee solution is introduced into the rectum, primarily cleaning the descending colon—located on the left side near the anus. However, coffee enemas also carry potential adverse effects, including possible damage to the intestinal wall, electrolyte and fluid imbalances, and disruption of the gut microbiota.
