Dr. Gan Liqiang
Interleukins primarily function in coordination and synergy with hematopoietic growth factors to jointly regulate hematopoiesis and immune responses. Interleukins generally mediate intercellular communication, activate and modulate immune cells, and promote their proliferation and differentiation. Clinically, interleukins are commonly used in antitumor therapy. For instance, interleukin-2 (IL-2), in combination with interferon, is employed in the treatment of malignant melanoma or renal cell carcinoma. Interleukin-11 (IL-11) can elevate platelet counts and is used to treat systemic lupus erythematosus and chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia.
